Generally these dogs guard the sheep flock during the whole summer period, which spans, on the lower altitudes, from mid-May to the end of September.

This map only shows the Alps on which official livestock guardian dogs are working (i.e. livestock guardian dogs that meet the requirements of the Federal Office for the Environment) or livestock guardian dogs recognised by the canton (Grisons).
